Protect your account with two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is designed to help keep your OfferUp account safe by ensuring that you’re the only person who can access it. 2FA assists us in protecting your account, your identity, and your personal information.

How it works

When we detect unusual activity on your account, 2FA will require you to provide 2 pieces of information before you can gain access to your account, including:

  • Your account password (or login credentials)
  • A 6-digit verification code that we send you

OfferUp may send verification codes by text or email, depending on the contact information associated with your account. In addition to providing a verification code, you might also be asked to complete a verification challenge or to provide more information. These extra security measures are based on the level of risk detected to either your account or the community. Your account activity may be suspended until you pass the verification challenge or provide the requested information.

Enrollment and verification

Once you set up your OfferUp account, you’re automatically enrolled in two-factor authentication. Since this is a required account feature, you cannot opt out. You may be asked to provide a 2FA verification code at any time in order to keep your account protected.

For example, if you attempt to log in to OfferUp from an unrecognized device, we’ll ask you to provide a verification code to prove it’s really you. Depending on the situation, we may send you a verification code by text or email, and in some cases, we may also require you to pass an additional verification challenge. For your protection, never share verification codes with anyone else.
