Accept an offer

If a buyer is interested in your item, they can make you an offer. You’ll see their offer in your messages and you can choose to accept or decline it. Here’s how it works.

View your offers

You’ll receive offers from interested buyers in your messages inbox.

To view your offers:

Mobile Desktop
  1. Open the OfferUp app and log in to your account.
  2. Tap Inbox.
  3. Tap on the message to view the offer.

Accept or decline local offers

You can accept a buyer’s offer by replying to their message. The offer will appear as a message that includes the item you’re selling and the amount they’d like to pay. Let them know that you’re interested, then coordinate to find a convenient time to meet up. For tips on places to meet, see Suggest a MeetUp Spot.

Decline offers for local items

You can decline a buyer's offer by replying to their message. Let them know that you’re not interested or that their offer is too low. You can also send them a counteroffer if you want to negotiate. Although it’s not required, we ask that you please respond to interested buyers even if you’re not accepting their offers. This helps maintain a positive experience for everyone involved.

Accept or decline shipping offers

Accept offers for shipped items

When a buyer sends you an offer for a shipped item, you will receive an in-app message prompting you to accept or decline the offer. Tap the Accept or Decline button to proceed. On the Offer page, choose Accept.

Note

If you enable the Auto Accept (Buy Now) feature, the system will automatically accept the first full-price shipping offer you receive. In this case, you will not receive a message asking you to accept or decline the offer. To learn more about this feature, see Auto accept shipping offers.

We’ll send you a pre-paid shipping label in the app and via email. By accepting their offer, you agree to ship the item within 5 calendar days. If you change your mind after accepting an offer, there’s no way to cancel the transaction. You’ll need to wait for it to expire automatically. For additional information, see How shipping works for sellers.

Decline offers for shipped items

You can decline a buyer’s offer by tapping Decline on the in-app message. When you do, they will receive a message that says you declined their offer. Alternatively, if you don’t accept or decline the offer within 24 hours, it will automatically cancel. While it’s not required, we encourage you to respond to all buyers, even if you're not accepting their offers. This helps ensure a positive experience for everyone.
