Troubleshooting verification issues

Verifying your identity helps keep your OfferUp account secure and builds trust within the OfferUp community. If you're having trouble verifying your account or didn't receive a verification code, here's what to check.

Ways to verify your account

You can verify your identity on OfferUp in a few ways:

  • Phone verification. Add a US-based phone number to your account. You'll receive a one-time password (OTP) by text message to confirm your number.
  • Email verification. Add an email address to your account. You'll receive an email with a verification code to confirm your address.
  • Facebook account verification. Link your Facebook account from your OfferUp account settings to confirm your identity.
  • TruYou Verification. Verify your identity with a valid ID and a selfie.

Note

In some cases, OfferUp may require you to complete additional verification for security purposes. If this happens, some account features or listings may be temporarily unavailable until verification is complete.

Didn't receive a verification code?

If you didn't receive a one-time password (OTP) or verification code after being prompted, try the following:

  • Update your app. An outdated app version can sometimes prevent you from receiving a verification code. See Update your app version for steps on how to update.
  • Check your phone signal or internet connection. A weak signal or connection issue can delay or prevent a text message or email from arriving.
  • Check your spam or junk folder. If you're expecting a verification code by email, it may have been filtered into your spam or junk folder.
  • Check with your mobile carrier. Some carriers block short codes (the shortened phone numbers used to send automated texts) by default. Contact your carrier to confirm short codes aren't blocked on your account.
  • Confirm your contact information is correct. If the phone number or email address on your account is outdated or incorrect, you won't receive the code.
  • Wait a few minutes and try again. Verification codes can occasionally take a few minutes to arrive.
  • Resend the code. If you still don't receive a code after a few minutes, try tapping Resend from the verification screen.

Don't have access to your phone number or email address?

If you no longer have access to the phone number or email address associated with your account, you'll need to update your contact information before you can verify your account.
