Connecting with customers

Connecting with potential clients on OfferUp is simple. Most customers will reach out through in-app messaging, but you can also choose to let them call you directly.

Messaging Customers

If a customer is interested in your services, they’ll send you a message through the OfferUp app. All communication stays in one place, making it easy to track conversations and manage inquiries. You can view all your current and past chats in the Inbox.

In the chat, you can:

  • Message back and forth: Discuss project details, provide estimates, and answer questions to help customers make a hiring decision. Respond as quickly as you can — customers often contact multiple providers and appreciate fast, helpful replies.
  • Share images: Send or receive photos of the job site or examples of your work to clarify project details.
  • Share contact info: If needed, you can share your phone number or email to continue the conversation.

Direct Calling (Optional)

You can add a phone number to your listing so customers can call you directly. When enabled, a Call button will appear on your listing, allowing customers to reach you with one tap to discuss projects or schedule appointments.

Messaging will still be available, and many customers prefer to start with chat. Enabling the Call button simply gives customers another way to connect with you.

Don’t Miss a Lead

Speed matters when converting a lead into a customer. To make sure you never miss a new inquiry, enable notifications so you get alerts for new messages. For more info, see Manage Notification Preferences.
