Adding a location to your OfferUp profile is an easy way to build trust with local buyers and sellers.
Benefits of adding your location
Your profile location tells other users where you are within the United States. Having a location on your profile makes you appear more trustworthy (and less like a bot or scammer). This can make people feel more confident about working with you.
Providing your profile location can also help buyers and sellers:
- See if you’re local to their area.
- Decide if they want to meet up with you based on driving distance.
- Browse the items you're selling if you’re within their search area.
- Estimate how long shipping may take from your city or state.
When you add a location, your city and state show on your profile page next to your username and picture.
Your location also appears at the top of your chat messages with other users.
Add or edit your profile location
The easiest way to add or update the location on your profile is through your account settings.
- Open the OfferUp app and log in to your account.
- On the Home page, tap Account > Account Settings.
- Tap Set Location if there is no existing city and state. Or, tap Edit if there is an existing city and state.
- On the Update Profile Location page, choose one of these options:
- Tap Get My Location to share your device’s current location. If you haven’t enabled location sharing yet, you’ll need to allow OfferUp to access your device’s location.
- If you don’t want to enable location sharing, tap Enter Zip Code to type in your zip code instead.
- Tap Apply to save your location.
- Visit OfferUp.com and log in to your account.
- On the Home page, click your profile picture, then select Account Settings.
- On the Settings page, click Set Location if there is no existing city and state. Or, click Edit to update an existing city and state.
- On the Set Location page, choose one of these options:
- Click Get My Location to use your current location.
- Or, click Enter ZIP Code to type in your zip code.
- Click Apply to save your location.
Your location will be saved to your account settings in the app and on OfferUp.com. Additionally, it will show up on your public profile immediately.
Save your search location to your profile
Sometimes, when you change your search location in the app, we’ll ask if you want to save that location to your profile as well. This helps ensure that your profile always stays up to date.
For example, if you change your search location from Detroit, MI to Seattle, WA, we may ask if you’d like to save Seattle, WA as your new profile location.
