Reporting a crime

Your safety and the well-being of our community are our top priorities. If you encounter a crime or illegal activity on OfferUp, your first priority should be your safety. Once you're safe, please report the incident.

Examples of a crime

To help maintain a safe environment for in-person transactions on OfferUp, it’s important to report any criminal activity or suspicious behavior. 

Here are some examples of crimes you may experience:

  • You suspect they used counterfeit money.
  • You were robbed at a meetup.
  • Your property was stolen.
  • You were a victim of a bait-and-switch.
  • You were assaulted.
  • They made aggressive threats or tried to intimidate you.
  • They had a weapon or threatened you with one.

How to report a crime

Step 1: Report the crime to law enforcement

If you believe you have encountered illegal activity or a crime, move to a safe location and immediately contact your local law enforcement.

The police will need relevant details from you, such as the user profile of the individual you were in contact with on OfferUp.

Once you have made your report to local authorities, please encourage the investigating officer to contact OfferUp with the details of your case.

If the police investigate further, they will reach out to OfferUp, and we will provide the necessary information to assist with the investigation.

Step 2: Report the crime to OfferUp

After reporting the crime to law enforcement, be sure to also report it to OfferUp.

  1. Select the Contact Us button below and choose Report a Crime.
  2. Include a description of the incident along with the following details of your case:
    • Agency Case Number or event ID
    • Investigative Officer Name
    • Investigative Officer's phone number or email

Additionally, you can report the user to OfferUp.
