When to report a crime
To help maintain a safe environment for in-person transactions on OfferUp, it’s important to report any criminal activity or suspicious behavior.
Here are some examples of in-person crimes to report:
- Robbery: When your property is taken from you by force or threat.
- Theft: When your property is stolen.
- Assault: When you are physically harmed.
- Counterfeit currency: When you suspect you received fake money.
- Bait-and-switch: When the item or terms agreed upon are changed deceptively at the meetup.
- Threats or intimidation: When a buyer or seller makes aggressive threats or tries to intimidate you.
- Weapons: When a buyer or seller has a weapon or threatens you with one.
How to report a crime
Step 1: Report the crime to law enforcement
If you've encountered illegal activity or a crime, immediately move to a safe location, then contact your local law enforcement.
When you speak with the police, they'll need important details from you, like the OfferUp user profile of the person involved.
After you've filed your report with local authorities, please encourage the investigating officer to contact OfferUp with the details of your case. If they contact us, we'll provide the necessary information to help.

Step 2: Report the crime to OfferUp
After you've reported the crime to law enforcement, please report it to OfferUp as well. This informs us to take appropriate actions to protect other community members on our platform.
To report the incident to OfferUp:
- Select the Contact Us button below and choose Report a Crime.

Include the following details about your case, if applicable:
- A description of the incident
- The police report case number or event ID
- The investigating officer's name and contact details
