If you send a seller an offer on an item, but later change your mind, you may be able to cancel it. Here’s how it works.
Cancel offers for local items
Whether you’re the buyer or the seller, you can cancel an offer by sending the other person a message on OfferUp. A simple note is sufficient, such as “I’m no longer interested but thank you!” Remember to be polite and courteous so that everyone involved has a positive experience.
Cancel offers for shipped items
Buyer
If you send a seller an offer using the Make Offer button, you have 24 hours to cancel it.
To cancel your offer:
- Open the OfferUp app and log in to your account.
- Tap Inbox, then select the message with the seller.
- Select View Offer.
- Select Cancel Offer.
Note
This option is not available on OfferUp.com.
However, you won’t be able to cancel using the above steps if any of these scenarios apply:
- The seller accepted your offer before you could cancel it within the 24-hour window.
- You used the Buy Now button to instantly purchase the item instead of using the Make Offer button.
In these scenarios, your only option is to message the seller to ask if they’ll let you cancel. If they agree, advise the seller not to ship the item. If the item isn’t shipped within 5 calendar days, the transaction will automatically cancel and your pending payment will be released within 3 - 5 business days.
Seller
If you’ve accepted an offer for a shipped item, but you’ve agreed to let the buyer cancel the purchase, just don’t ship it. If you don’t ship the item, the transaction will automatically cancel after 5 calendar days. Then, the buyer’s payment will be released back to them within 3 - 5 business days.
If the item ships
After the item has shipped, there is no way to cancel the transaction. If the buyer is dissatisfied with the item upon delivery, they can ask the seller for a refund or file a 2-Day Purchase Protection claim.
