To make online shopping safer, the U.S. government passed the INFORM Consumers Act in June 2023. This law requires online marketplaces like OfferUp to collect, verify, and sometimes share information about high-volume sellers. Below is an overview of the Act and its potential impact on your selling experience with OfferUp
Key details
- According to the INFORM Consumers Act, a high-volume seller is someone who has sold 200 or more items and earned $5,000 or more in gross sales via an online platform within any 12-month period over the past 2 years.
- If you meet the high-volume seller criteria, OfferUp will ask you to provide and verify certain information. This might include confirming your identity and address.
- You'll need to keep this information up-to-date—we'll ask you to review and confirm it annually.
- If your annual gross online sales reach $20,000 or more, we're required to share your name (or business name) and physical address with buyers on their purchase receipts.
